True and fallen
chapter 1, 3
Bowen

Bowen’s instincts took over him as he bolted towards his mothers fading howl. He vaguely heard his little sister’s voice calling out to him but her voice was lost in his panic stricken mind.

He charged half jumping half falling through the steep slope of  rocks that led to the centre of Lassa. The centre of Lassa could only be seen by varg eyes it was somewhat like a small city but the urban feel was not there replaced by a natural, light tone that was difficult to describe.

A place of large statues and small buildings the centre tower the main focus point. The white stone tower that rose to the sky was a image that every varg held in there minds even if they had never visited the place before, they would have seen it in their dreams. Keeping his green eyes on the tower he continued his sprint through the grounds.

Bowen crashed through a tangle of branches and leaves as he ran back through the dense forest. Bowen eyesight became hazy as he collided in thick black smoke, his eyes stung as he tried desperately to catch his bearings. He could no longer see the tower he could hardly see the trees in front of his eyes.

He stopped and paused breathing heavily he desperately tried to calm his mind. His breathing grew ragged and he coughed and choked on the dense smoke that surround him. The smoke merged with the young vargs vision and formed demonic shapes and shadows in front of him. In the distance he could hear the muffled howls and yells of anger and fear some familiar and others unknown to his memories. In a last desperate effort he closed his eyes and reached out with his mind.

He grabbed at earths power and felt his stripe and eyes glow to a dark green, he felt the ground beneath him and followed it to the trees that surrounded him. He could feel the strong roots of the trees the veins that surrounded the tower. Passing every tree, he knew them already by there energy patterns each completely unique. But there was one that was hidden to him, one that remained untouched. The familiar howls grew less frequent as the unfamiliar grew more loud. Bowen could feel time slipping past him.
THERE.
Still half clutching to his power he ran to the left to a gap in the circle of trees, it was only then his mind was clear enough to notice the small varg running beside him. He charged through a gap karli running with him, a white blue in the grey smoke. He charged on then..stopped.

He stopped so abruptly that karli ran into his hind legs.

“Bow wha..”
Karli’s voice cut of a she to saw what lay in-front of her brother.

Bowen stared disbelieving at the scene in front of him. Lassa was gone, his home just..gone. Trees and whole parts of the forest burnt in front of his eyes the smoke disfiguring what was left, Lassa was destroyed.

The tower was still there but it was nothing like how it was only the bones of it was left like a carcass of a proud beast that was left behind after the life had been drained away.

Bowen’s mind filled with a fear that he had never felt before.
The black smoke blurring with the only just visible tree tops and the red flames of the fire that was causing the smoke making it glow and twist in the dimming light. The smoke curling around dim shapes in the fires glow snapping at them like a viper. It was then that the wind picked up ever so slightly but just enough to move some of the smoke away, it was then that Bowen knew the reason for his fear.

Bowen gasped in horror as figures became clear. There outlines varg shaped but huge scaly wings beat the air around them causing the smoke to whirl and swirl as if it itself was alive. Their canines to large for their mouth’s went over their lips dripped in blood.

There eyes and stripe glowed but not through the fire’s red light but through there elements that they were using to destroy the beautiful forest. Bowen barley felt karli’s small body quivering in fear beside his as one figure turned its blood drenched head, it was then that Bowen knew for certain who they were. He could sense there spirits were tainted with a sense that made Bowen feel sick and dizzy. These creatures had many names some called them the shadows, some the dead some the fallen vargs.

Fallen vargs the enemies of the true, vargs that will kill any true vargs they can find.

It was this that was stuck into Bowens mind as the fallen varg that had noticed him began to slowly walk towards them a sickening smile on his face.
